Working with Electric Umbrella

We are proud to collaborate with Electric Umbrella, a local charity that uses the power of music to unite people and create a more inclusive society.

Our partnership has taken us on an incredible journey – culminating in a Golden Buzzer moment from Simon Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent, as we performed alongside Electric Umbrella to share a message of acceptance and inclusion with the nation.

Where Music Meets Inclusion: The Electric Umbrella Experience

...and understanding there's no such thing as normal!

Our journey with Electric Umbrella began over seven years ago and has brought countless opportunities and a lasting impact. Through vibrant workshops, performances, and interactive sessions, Electric Umbrella have inspired creativity, confidence, and connection throughout our school – helping us to truly embrace the belief that there’s no such thing as normal.

Electric Umbrella have delivered whole-school assemblies, key stage-specific workshops, and staff training. Together, we’ve written and released original songs, created music videos, performed at Watford Palace Theatre, run a conference for education professionals – and even earned a Golden Buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent.

More than just a partner, Electric Umbrella has become part of who we are as a school – championing difference, sparking joy, and helping every member of our community to feel seen, celebrated, and empowered.

Real Conversations, Real Change:
EDI Through Creative Collaboration

Working with Electric Umbrella has ignited powerful conversations around Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) within our school community. Through whole school workshops and unforgettable experiences, children and staff alike have gained a deeper, more human understanding of what true inclusivity looks and feels like.

Both beaming with pride, they joined forces to share their stories with the entire school community. The Impact Electric Umbrella Has

For over seven years, Electric Umbrella has played a key role in Sarratt C of E Primary’s inclusive learning journey—helping every member of the school community feel seen, celebrated, and empowered. From vibrant workshops to writing original songs and even earning a Golden Buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent, Electric Umbrella has helped show there’s no such thing as normal—only the power of being uniquely you.

Living Our Values: Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural Development

Working with Electric Umbrella has significantly supported our school in delivering high-quality Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) development, which lies at the heart of our curriculum.

Spiritually

Students are encouraged to reflect on their own perspectives of life, express themselves creatively, and develop a deep respect for others’ feelings, values, and lived experiences. Through engaging, imaginative sessions, they are inspired to explore who they are and how they connect with the world around them.

Socially

Students collaborate and connect with Electric Umbrella members—individuals from diverse backgrounds with a range of abilities. This fosters teamwork, communication, and mutual respect, as well as a sense of belonging and community.

Morally

The inclusive nature of Electric Umbrella’s work prompts students to consider the impact of their actions, words, and attitudes. They engage with important moral and ethical themes, learning to appreciate and empathise with the views and experiences of others.

Culturally

Our pupils gain a broader understanding and appreciation of the rich variety of cultural influences and life experiences that exist beyond their immediate environment. By participating in artistic, musical, and interactive cultural activities, they learn to celebrate both difference and commonality, developing a positive and respectful approach to diversity.

In short, Electric Umbrella has brought SMSC education to life in meaningful, joyful, and lasting ways.

Ofsted (2023) noted:

Leaders, staff and pupils work hard to realise the motto, ‘small school, big heart, huge aspirations’. Aspects of the school, principally pupils’ behaviour and how staff go above and beyond for pupils’ wider development, prove this exceptionally well. Leaders seek out exciting ways to broaden pupils’ horizons.

SIAMS (2024) noted:

Strong leadership has developed a dedicated staff team who model energy, hope and devotion to the power of a flourishing school community. This generates a passion for equity, diversity and inclusion, which is at the heart of the school’s work. Pupils are inspired to work together to ‘do our best to be our best’.
